Which is Better: PLR or Ghostwriting?

January 13th 2010 | Posted in Easy PLR, PLR, Private Label Rights

Here’s a good quick article by my friend Nicole Dean of Easy PLR answering the question; Which is better: PLR articles or Ghostwritten articles?

Private Label Rights (PLR) articles and ghostwritten articles are both options when you need web content. Each is unique in its qualities and each has its drawbacks.

So, when you need content, which should you choose? Let’s analyze both options to find out which option is right for you.

  • Ghostwritten Articles

Ghostwritten articles are written just for your use. You own the article and can do whatever you’d like to with it.

Pros:
1. The article is unique to you and you do not share the content with anyone else.

Cons:
1. Ghostwritten articles are quite a bit more expensive per article than PLR packages.
2. You have the responsibility of finding a good writer.
3. The quality can be questionable.
4. You need to check your articles to make sure your ghostwriter isn’t stealing content. Unfortunately that does happen.

  • PLR Articles

PLR articles are prewritten articles that are sold in packages, or as part of a monthly membership.

Pros:
1. PLR articles are much more affordable than ghostwritten ones.
2. The content is ready, so you don’t have to wait for a ghostwriter to become available or find a ghostwriter who is available.

Cons:
1. The content is not unique. You share the articles with the other people who purchased the package or membership.
2. You can’t submit the PLR articles to article directories.
3. The quality can be questionable.
4. You have to find PLR packages in your niche – or hope that the membership you signed up for sends you ones that you can use.

How can you even the odds between the two? Find a quality PLR service that allows you choose your topics. If the articles are well written, and their distribution is limited, it’s almost as good as getting ghostwritten content just for you. That way, you get the best of both worlds – quality content at a great price.

Nicole Dean welcomes you to check out the articles at EasyPLR.com – where you’ll find high-quality PLR articles on niches sold in very limited quantities. I have purchased many PLR products from there, and I have always been very happy with them.

Very good comparison by Nicole. I never tried yet to find a ghostwriter and it seems difficult and expensive. So I suppose I will try to continue to rewrite articles I feel has good content offered in subscriptions.

I have used Nicole’ articles on niches of interest. Excellent content.

Very good analysis of PLR vs Ghostwriting. I have seen many that say you should not use PLR. But then they recommend ghostwriting.

The only advantage I see of ghostwriting is that the content is unique, if your ghostwriter made it unique. Chances are good that even if you get your content from a ghostwriter, you will still have to do some re-writing before you can use the content.

Nice breakdown of pros and cons between PLR and Ghostwritten articles. I like the PLR solution beacuse of the cost factor but can see the benefit of getting unique content as well. For now I will continue to use PLR content and rewrite them if necessary

Too Cheap to go the Ghostwriter route, but see the strength of the approach when creating a totally new product in a new niche. Key is to get it researched well as step one and then after reviewing the research, getting the writing done based on your determination of which elements of the research you want to emphasize. And dare I say a re-edit after the ghost writing is done.

Seems to me that it might be quicker to write your own unique content.
If you are passionate about your niche this should be enjoyable.

I am a big fan of Nicole and PLR. With as much as you would have to pay for a ghostwriter, I am just not there yet. And besides, I have had no problem with well written PLR. You just have to be sure of your choice of where to get the articles.

Thanks for the excellent post!
I would have to go with the PLR on this one.
Even if the PLR article is poorly written, as long as the research is there, it can be better for you. It makes your brain work a little harder to get it correct.
When you are first trying out a new ghostwriter, unless the topic is something you are particularly familiar with, you have to research for yourself to be sure the information is correct.
After all, your rep is on the line when you post the article.
Thanks for the insight!

While PLR articles may be sold to thousands, you can still make them unique and submit to article directories by using a good article spinner

While each has its place…

When you’re looking for solid blog content that can be monetized, *quality* PLR is a fantastic shortcut. (Of course, crap content – whether provided by a ghostwriter or a PLR provider should just be trashed.) :)

So thankful that several of you are customers. MUCH thanks for trying us out! We’ve got plenty more coming your way…

Warmly,

Interesting question.

I personally prefer plr articles over ghost writers simply because it’s more cost effective and I can exercise better control over the content.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. PLR makes it so easy to get new content online, it really is a great time saver and money saver.

Thanks Nicole for stopping by :) I’m looking forward to all of the content that you have coming!

Your article did a good job comparing ghost written and PLR articles for content.

Which ever route is chosen, I think the pieces need to be edited so they are in your ‘voice’. No one thinks and writes exactly like you and the goal is to brand YOU.

Great article! But then again I’m a big fan of Nicole’s too! I have yet to receive anything but the highest quality from EasyPLR.com.

I also agree that PLR should always be re-written. It should always be written in your voice. I personally use PLR to “get me started”. It gives me a topic to write about and well, I’m too much of a “rambler” to let it as is. I always have to add my imput to it too.

So to sum up a long story short, I use PLR to get me started with the idea/topic and to give me the “basics” of the article or whatever it is. Then I elaborate from there.

Another great post, but I’m not surprised, Joel – you and Nicole are two of the best sources for PLR and PLR information online today!

One other option I’d add, that really combines the two systems – buy good PLR and then pay a ghostwriter to rewrite them to make them unique. This gives you great content at a lower cost than straight ghostwriting, while not taking you away from your two main tasks – list-building and driving traffic into your funnels.

I use both and what I have found is that using good Article Spinner that allows you to spin complete sentences and not just words or combine both – can do wonders to a content creation process :-)

Especially when its done by someone else on your behalf.
